Minor Triad & Inversions Minor triads are built from the 1st (root), 3rd (minor 3rd), and 5th (perfect 5th) degrees of the Minor scale. In music theory, a minor chord is a chord having a root, a minor third, and a perfect fifth. When a chord has these three notes alone, it is called a minor triad.
